Drake unloaded his hard drive earlier this week (Aug. 6) when he dumped a 100 gigabytes worth of vlogs, BTS footage, past studio sessions, artworks and three new songs on a whim.
Originally uploaded to 100gigs.org, the 6 God post-rap war has opted for “summertime vibes” and surprise drops in the aftermath of his feud with Kendrick Lamar. Linking with Gordo for “Sideways” and “Healing,” Camila Cabello for “Hot Uptown” and “Uuugly” and perhaps the weirdest release of his career, “WAH GWAN DELILAH,” Drake’s 100 Gigs 3-pack is a return to his usual pocket—even if the EP contains a trio of varying sounds.
Sharing “IT’S UP” featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage, “Housekeeping Knows” with Latto—who just dropped her strongest full-length effort to date Sugar Honey Iced Tea—and “Blue Green Red,” Drizzy unexpectedly gave fans a redemption platter worth the replay. Thugger and Savage give “IT’S UP” an ATL edge, while the latter tracks tap into Drake’s dancehall pocket, with “Housekeeping Knows” being a more wavy, dance-laced rap track that Latto and Drizzy skate over. This is Drake’s first solo release (aside from all the beef efforts), since Scary Hours 3 last November.
The 100 gigs file is PACKED (and I mean packed) with Easter eggs throughout Drake’s career. From Weeknd impersonations to unreleased songs to intimate studio sessions with day one collaborators Noah 40 Shebib and Noel Cadastre, the OVO head honcho certainly gifted die hard fans with enough content that will last them through rest of the year.
But that’s not how Drake rolls; Quantity is quality in his case. Expect more from Drizzy as the summer continues to heat up—and as the dust still settles from his bout with K-Dot.
