Dro Kenji’s latest single “AMSTERDAM” is having a moment—more so than any of his recent tracks.
Sharing “HEARTLESS” and “EVIL TWIN” earlier this year, igniting the rollout to his ninth full-length project (which is 90% done according to Dro), 2025 is already shaping up to be the South Carolina rapper’s year for the taking.
In 2024, we saw the rise of Internet Money sensation Rich Amiri (by way of “ONE CALL” and War Ready) and the superstar solidification of Lil Tecca, but Kenji’s in the driver’s seat speeding towards his turn—dropping off his most viral record to date, “AMSTERDAM.”
Performed on On The Radar Radio and even played during Adin Ross and Drake’s recent Drizzmas stream, “AMSTERDAM” proves to be Dro and longtime collaborator Census’ most lethal track to date. The rage-inspired beat plumes with distorted high-rise synths that float beneath Kenji’s otherworldly croon. He hits the beat hard with punchy rhymes that paint a picture of him beating out other suitors for a lover that may not be all that worth it: “She like 15 n***s deep right now and she finally choosin’ me / I’m like one, two, three, four M’s, I know this b*tch won’t bring me peace.”
Kenji stunts in “AMSTERDAM” where he finally finds green at 4 a.m., but the song represents much more than just another notch in his catalog. Unlike Amiri and Tecca, Kenji has yet to nab a breakout hit that’ll lend to greater visibility (and opportunity). He has the skill, sound and catalog to achieve mainstream acclaim, though.
