Kendrick Lamar is letting God guide his actions as of late, even if the musical messiah doesn’t need to be your “Savior.”
Seen donning a crown of thorns during Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring-Summer 2023 Show, K-Dot performed a few hits off his Billboard No. 1 album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers on Thursday (June 23) in Paris.
The event majorly paid homage to Virgil Abloh — the late creative visionary and former artistic director for Louis Vuitton menswear. The fashion icon’s name blared throughout the show, as Lamar ad-libbed “Long Live Virgil” rapping “Count Me Out” sitting next to pgLang co-founder Dave Free.
Mr. Morale’s Paris showing saw him tastefully embedding Virgil’s name within his tracks; nearly muffling, “create…Virgil…how many miles though?” Lamar’s unique performance also included live renditions of “N95,” “Savior” and “Rich Spirit,” which featured a marching band and “big” steppers.
Aside from his set at Louis Vuitton SS23, Lamar is also slated to perform at Milano Summer Festival in Italy on June 23 — continuing his string of pre-tour appearances overseas at Spotify’s Cannes Lions International Creativity Festival. His forthcoming “The Big Steppers Tour” is set to scatter the globe starting in mid-July, as K-Dot and pgLang counterparts Tanna Leone and Baby Keem embark on the 65-stop trek that will last until late-December.
Amid Louis Vuitton’s runway show, more artists and designer brands were in attendance for Paris Fashion Week. Of hip-hop’s superstar talents, Westside Gunn, KayCyy, Lil Durk and others were spotted at GIVENCHY’s SS23 Show, modeling a few of GIVENCHY’s products with Durk making the most of his runway walk for Amiri.
Kendrick’s fifth studio album is a heavy favorite for 2022 album of the year honors — seeing the former TDE savant come to terms with his vices and choosing himself (and his sanity) above all. Off the back of his Spotify-produced short film, festival appearances and upcoming world tour, K-Dot’s summer takeover is just heating up.
