Since the start of April, Lil Baby has begun to unload his vault.
Whether it be his two-pack of singles “Right On” and “In A Minute” from April 8 or unleashing his loosie “Frozen” on April 29, Baby is back in a rhythm of putting out music, potentially ahead of an album in the near future.
Fans are thrilled for this return of the 4PF captain, and one of his biggest fans happens to be one of the most exciting young basketball players in the world. Ja Morant, who has openly expressed his love for Baby, is currently competing in the NBA playoffs and battling a knee injury as the Memphis Grizzles trail the Golden State Warriors 3-1 in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.
During Game 3 of this series, Beats by Dre aired their brand new commercial, which featured the 22-year-old basketball star and the Atlanta trap icon. Baby debuts a brand new song titled “Dark Mode,” inspired by Ja, as he and Morant co-star in the music video.
With the motivation behind the song being to “work in the dark, shine in the light,” Baby rattles off hoops-related bars while name dropping ballers like Morant, Draymond Green, Kyrie Irving, Trae Young and LeBron James.
Twelve to twelve, I’m tryna bust a clock, the Ja Morant flow
I get in that zone, I get to callin’ it the dark mode
Love the fans so much, I hear ’em screamin’, “Pipe me up mo'”
Call me what you want, but if you know, they call me young G.O.A.T
“Dark Mode” — Lil Baby
Although the song has not been released on digital streaming services, the Beats headphones worn by Baby and Ja in the promo are available exclusively at Target. Lil Baby is seen wearing the Beats Studio Buds in Moon Gray while Morant dons the same ear buds but in Sunset Pink.
The marriage between basketball and rap has always been a mutually beneficial one, and this new Beats ad proves it once again.
