Lil Durk and Polo G become first Chicago rappers to have back-to-back No. 1 albums: Both Chicago natives top the Billboard 200 chart in consecutive weeks.
Chicago, Illinois has produced some some of hip-hop’s most notable icons. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Chief Keef, Chance the Rapper, Saba, G Herbo and many others hail from the Windy City, and have lasting legacies in the rap game.
This is why the feat Lil Durk and Polo G just accomplished is so astounding. Yesterday, June 20, it was announced that Polo G’s third studio album Hall of Fame debuted with No. 1 status on the Billboard 200 chart.

This news comes a week after Lil Durk’s collaborative album with Lil Baby, The Voice of the Heroes, which the two announced today they would be doing joint tour for, earned that same spot. So, Polo G and Lil Durk are the first two Chicago rappers ever to have back-to-back No. 1 albums.
Not only is this a notable achievement by itself, but it is also the first time both these artists had landed a No. 1 album at all. Prior to this, Lil Durk and Polo G had only reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Durk did so twice with his 2020 albums Just Cause Y’all Waited 2 and The Voice, and Polo G did so once with his second album THE GOAT, also released in 2020.
This is a testament to how much these artists have progressed over the last year or so. Chicago was already on the map long before these two rappers came around. But, they are influential in keeping Chicago relevant in hip-hop right now and in the future, especially since they have collaborated frequently on songs like “3 Headed Goat” by Lil Durk featuring Polo G and Lil Baby and “No Return” by Polo G featuring Lil Durk and The Kid LAROI.

Polo G and Lil Durk sit atop the rap game at the moment, and it may be a while before they relinquish their position as they continue to trend upward.
