Lil Tjay making ‘significant progress’ following botched robbery shooting

Bronx rapper Lil Tjay is reportedly showing signs of betterment following his emergency surgery that treated multiple gunshot wounds in a botched robbery attempt (June 22).

According to TMZ, the 21-year-old emcee has made “significant progress” toward recovery on Thursday (June 30). The publication divulged that Tjay is “awake and alert” and is also able to speak on his own. TMZ’s sources also claim when hospital personnel took out his breathing tube, his voice sounded the same as it did prior to his injuries. Tjay was previously unconscious, unable to move his legs and made no other movements last week. However, he was upgraded from critical condition to stable on June 23.

As Tjay recovers, the Bergen County, NJ Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Mohamed Konate attempted to rob Lil Tjay and two friends. Tjay and his crew quickly resisted, which caused Konate to allegedly shoot Tjay multiple times. Since the incident, Konate has been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, while the other two suspects were handed second-degree charges for unlawful possession of a weapon

The shooting occurred at a Chipotle restaurant in Edgewater, New Jersey just after midnight on Wednesday. Tjay and a second victim were injured in the attempted robbery, as it was reported that patrons apprehended the three men responsible for the shooting. The “Not In The Mood” rapper immediately underwent emergency surgery, per XXL.

Tjay released his sophomore album, Destined 2 Win, in April 2021 — debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. While currently working on his forthcoming project, Strictly4MyFans, his most recent singles in “In My Head,” “Goin Up” and “Lavish (Freestyle)” were set to hold over fans for the long-teased tape. Tjay was also close with fellow drill superstar Pop Smoke, who tragically passed away after a home invasion in 2020.
