It’s been quite some time since NYC melodic rap prodigy Lil Tjay has put out a project. In fact, it has been over a year since the release of his studio album Destined 2 Win, which gave fans bangers like “Run It Up” with Offset and Moneybagg Yo, as well as romantic ballads like “What You Wanna Do.”
Throughout the last year, Tjay has been steadily dropping viral singles such as October 2021’s “Not in the Mood,” with fellow New Yorkers Fivio Foreign and Kay Flock, as well as “In My Head,” released on April Fool’s Day. Now, it seems he has been establishing some momentum towards more consistent releases, but made sure his fans deserved it first.
After achieving the 20,000 comments on his Instagram post previewing the song, Lil Tjay released “Lavish (Freestyle)” exclusively on YouTube on April 23.
“Lavish” show Tjay flowing and recording the song in a studio session, as his trademark crooning and slick-tongued delivery remind fans of the old Lil Tjay, when he blew up with its like “Leaked” and “F.N.” in 2019.
I can’t ever change from the roots
Ain’t too much to change from the start
I got n****s chained to the boots
That’s why I got pain in my heart
Look up, you see gang on the charts
N****s gettin’ flamed for remarks
We gon’ spin and bang after dark (Grr)
And I ain’t say a thing from the start (Bow, bow, bow)

Two days after dropping “Lavish,” Tjay took to Instagram to apologize to his fans for not releasing frequently in the last year, and promising this summer he wouldn’t be releasing just “1 song every 5 months.” With this, he announced his upcoming EP STRICTLY4MYFANS, although it has yet to be given a cover art or release date.

With the determination and comfort Lil Tjay displayed in himself on “Lavish,” new music from him should certainly excite the entire hip-hop community.
