Lil Yachty stays hot with new single ‘A COLD SUNDAY’

Hit-for-hit, nobody is on top like Lil Yachty right now. Dropping his first single of 2024 on Friday (Feb. 2), “A COLD SUNDAY” is perhaps the Atlanta artist’s most glimmering example of his status as hip-hop’s secret weapon.

A COLD SUNDAY,” also known as “Die For My Respect,” sees Yachty posted in a white-iced fit surrounded by a fish-eyed, five camera angle set-up. The warm, jazzy beat is an intriguing juxtaposition of the fiery bars Boat tears off over the barely two-minute track — sonically in line with “The Secret Recipe” featuring J. Cole. “A COLD SUNDAY”? More like Friday flames; It’s clear Yachty is deserving of the respect he speaks on.

She a city girl, I’m the real reason that she act up (Mmh)

She talk back, I make her pack up, send her home on Spirit

Something in my spirit made me not believe I’m feared (Mmh)

I know bitches parrots so I’m watchin’ how I’m speakin’

Lil Yachty — “A Cold Sunday”

Following past singles such as “GIMME DA LITE,” “Tesla,” “Slide,” “Strike (Holster)” and more, the Let’s Start Here emcee’s run over the past two years has been truly undeniable. Recently appearing on Lyrical Lemonade’s All Is Yellow and YungBlud’s “When We Die (Can We Still Get High?),” Boat’s foray into more timeless, alternative sounds has been the crux to his evolution. Let’s Start Here proved to be the beginning of it all, as Yachty seemingly demanded more out of himself, as well as hip-hop as a whole.

“The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. It’s a lot of quick, low-quality music being put out,” Lil Yachty told Rolling Stone last year. “It’s a lot less risk-taking, it’s a lot less originality… People are too safe now. I rather take the risk than take the L.”

Taking risks have paid — and continues to pay — off for Lil Yachty.
