Surprise Boat is the best Boat.
Lil Yachty just shared six new tracks on SoundCloud this morning, adding shelved off-the-cuff offerings to his alt-account “tHE CONCRETE LeaK sYstem.” The profile, which features a total of 86 throwaways from Yachty over the years, was updated on Thursday (July 20). Some of these tracks date back to 2017 during LY’s Teenage Emotions era. You can check out the archive here.
Of the updated cuts, Yachty’s pre-Let’s Start Here sonics are evident in the tracks’ timestamps from 2021-22. “FRIDAY” (prod. by Cash Cobain), “I DONT TRUST MY BITCH / OLD RED,” “ON MY MOTHER FREESTYLE,” “THE EMANCIPATION,” “TEAM HERO” (prod. by TrapMoneyBenny) and “VENICE” (prod. by Wheezy) all occupy a space Yachty once resided in, but accomplishes his mission in feeding fans with the bars they’ve missed — despite the pack’s unofficial release.

The Georgia-born rapper’s collective CONCRETE BOYS, which majorly features signees in Draft Day and DC2Trill, makes an appearance on two of the six songs. “ON MY MOTHER FREESTYLE” and “FRIDAY” are first-spin favorites, as Cash Cobain samples Chris Tucker and Ice Cube’s iconic porch conversation from the movie Friday on the latter.
Yachty operates at a high level, but these “leaks” serve as a reminder of not only his rap chops, but his undoubted ascension as a face of the current generation. Amid the success of his latest single “Strike (Holster),” his psych-rock excursion Let’s Start Here and efforts on Zack Bia’s debut project Learn To Fly (“One Of Those Days,” “Flowers”), the 25-year-old star’s proximity and close friendship to the 6 God Drake has also allowed him to evolve and grow his likeness.
With more music on the way — presumably attaching himself to Cole Bennett’s curation of the Lyrical Lemonade compilation album — Lil Boat just keeps getting bigger.
