Playboi Carti’s set 2024 ablaze at the start, dropping his fourth consecutive single “BACKR00MS” with Travis Scott on New Year’s Day.
Following “UR THE MOON,” “2024” and “H00DBYAIR,” “BACKR00MS” is Carti and Scott’s fourth official collaboration, where the duo float over spacey 808s as Carti employs his innovative deep-toned vocals once more. The gritty, stark visual continues to set the stage for the Opium boss’s MUSIC aesthetic, while lines like “I think I need me an Ice Spice, I want me a munch,” took over the Internet.
“Keep streaming, I’ll drop another,” Carti shared via Instagram stories, unrelenting in new tunes to kick off 2024. Rumors indicate that MUSIC could release on Jan. 26 — in tangent with Opium’s forthcoming global ANTAGONIST Tour.
Travis and Playboi Carti recently traded verses on Scott’s electric UTOPIA standout “FE!N” — which he’s performed 10-plus times in a row on various dates of his CIRCUS MAXIMUS tour. “Green & Purple,” “Love Hurts” and the unreleased “Houdini” are other gems within their joint catalog.
It’s clear Playboi Carti’s MUSIC is looming closer through each of these loose cuts, but what’s more intriguing — and exciting — is what he’s deciding to hold on to for the album. Whenever that may be, expect history to be made.
