MUSIC’s rollout is getting more exciting by the minute.
After a week of silence — and double take-provoking videos of a Smack DVD homage and a cop-cam arrest from 2022 — Playboi Carti continues his tear of consistency listening to the devil on his shoulder: “EVILJ0RDAN.”
As the Opium rapper’s fifth single in just over a month, Carti’s surprising activity stems from previous tracks in “DIFFERENT DAY,” “2024,” “H00DBYAIR” and “BACKR00MS” featuring Travis Scott.
His latest (produced by Cardo and Johnny Juliano) was one of the first he previewed at the backend of 2023, with vocals from DJSWAMPIZZO blaring in the background — which sparked a viral trend. Carti also teased another new track would be dropping soon on IG Stories.
Amid these unofficial single releases, news of the long-awaited follow up to Whole Lotta Red has largely gone cold from Carti’s camp. All five of these tracks are not available on digital streaming platforms, and can only be found on the rapper’s Finsta and YouTube channels. However, rumors indicate that Jan. 26 could be D-Day, as in “drop day.”
Recent features in Numero Berlin and Re-Edition Magazine are telling of the “important” music he’s about to share. “It’s very important to me because I feel like I have something to prove. I’m just excited, you know? This is my moment, this is the one for me,” he told Numero. “I think it’s going to be my best album because I’m just popping it. It starts with music. That’s it. As long as I got that, it’s up.”
Additionally, Playboi Carti and his Opium roster, which includes Destroy Lonely, Ken Carson and Homixide Gang, were slated to kick off the “ANTAGONIST Tour” this week, but it has been delayed for the fourth time. No updates surround the tour’s rescheduled dates at the time of this writing.
