Last Friday (Jan. 6), Skrillex returned to fans with his second single this year — confirming that the artist/producer powerhouse is in album rollout mode as we speak.
Preceded by the Fred Again. and Flowdan-assisted “Rumble,” Skrillex enlists the help of Trippie Redd and internet favorite PinkPantheress on his newest release “Way Back.”
Instilled with an infectious liquid jungle energy, “Way Back” sees PinkPantheress and Trippie Redd flourishing over an electrifying Skrillex mix. While the track might be more dulcet and delicate than the average Skrillex track, “Way Back” trades infectious abrasion for a lighter and more dancy aural register.
The chemistry between PinkPantheress, Skrillex, and Trippie Redd is palpable, with every moment packed with nostalgia so strong that despite Skrillex giving fans two tracks in one week, it only makes the wait for new music even harder.
After almost a decade without a solo album released, Skrillex has wasted no time this year getting fans excited for new music. Posting cover art and music snippets to his social media accounts, some speculate that Skrillex’s cryptic caption “QFF/DGTC 23” suggests that the artist has plans to drop two albums this year instead of just one.
Whether he’s set to deliver fans one album or ten albums, fans would be wise to keep Skrillex on their radar this year.
