SZA surprises with a ‘PSA’ worth listening to

At last, SZA is ready to gift her sophomore album to starving fans. Surprising with the official teaser for her long-awaited project, PSA, on her birthday, the TDE songstress’s seductive trailer seems to embody her carefree, triumphant era.

The album, which is five years in the making, was announced as a “birthday gift” from SZA on Tuesday (Nov. 8). Previewing a sultry track in the visual, SZA is seen posing in a circle of fire as she bathes in glowing water on a darkly lit beach — giving fans a quick glimpse into the project by reminding them of her undeniable presence as R&B’s saving grace.

Over the last few months, she’s hinted that her sophomore LP was dropping in due time — releasing its presumed lead single “Shirt” on Oct. 28. Along with adding a 7-track deluxe to her 2017 album CTRL in June, additional features alongside Future, DJ Khaled and Doechii have primed followers for her inevitable comeback.

Previously revealing that her next full-length album is set to drop “any day now” in an interview with TMZ, her words are now more true than ever. She told the outlet that she has built a vault of over 100 songs, explaining that she has “five years of material” stashed away. “Shirt” had fans in shambles prior to its release, garnering major momentum for PSA in the process.

Her ability to remain relevant with quality over quantity is unmatched, following the footsteps of legends like Frank Ocean and Playboi Carti, who are notorious for dropping top-tier work after years of silence. Amid prior contributions to the Black Panther album and Dear Evan Hansen soundtracks, solo SZA work has been largely scarce from the game.

With PSA on the horizon, there’s no doubt SZA has spent the last five years prepping to break the internet.
