070 Shake releases sophomore effort ‘YOU CAN’T KILL ME’

It seems like nothing can kill 070 Shake’s vibe, as the Kanye West-co-signed songstress has become known for curating alternate realities within her sound.

Off the back of her debut album Modus Vivendi (2020) and previous 2021 singles in “Neo Surf” and “Lose My Cool,” 070 returns to shake up the game once more with her long-awaited sophomore album, YOU CAN’T KILL ME (June 3).

Following the release of the album’s lead single “Skin And Bones” (April 22), Shake continued the album’s rollout with two other tracks in “Web” (May 4) and “Body” featuring Christine and the Queens (May 20). Holding a total of 14 tracks and co-produced by Mike Dean and Johan Lenox, Shake’s signature, ethereal soundscape sees the New Jersey wordsmith picking up right where she left off on her debut effort.

Additionally sharing an immersive visual for “Medicine” — an early highlight and her fourth official single off the LP — Shake’s giving her heart and soul for fans on her second studio album.

Her lead track “Skin And Bones” encapsulates the underlying vibe of the record perfectly, as it proves to be both parts a loving slow jam and cinematic banger at once. Shake meshes the track’s uplifting synths and progressive production with her swooning, ghostly vocals — further showcasing her ability to transport listeners with an otherworldly aura. “And we spoke in past tense / Reminisce ’bout back when our spirits used to dance with each other,” she hypnotically sing-raps, speaking on how her lover treats her more than just “skin and bones.”

Life will take its toll

But whichever way we go

Know I’m right here by your side, shawty

Skin and bones under the covers

Kept our love undercover

Nonchalant, very subtle

Tryin’ not to step on the puddle”

Amid YOU CAN’T KILL ME’s release, Shake also lent her voice for fellow YZY Sound signee KayCyy’s new mixtape Get Used To It as well as Johan Lenox’s orchestra-infused debut WDYWTBWYGU. She’s also been touring the record since early May, as her remaining stop include Toronto, Houston and Phoenix before finishing with a four-night residency at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre next weekend (June 10).
