After impressing with single after single in 2022, composer-singer Johan Lenox is here to bless his day-one fans with his formal debut — complete with brand new sounds and an unorthodox guest list of perfectly-placed features.
His new album, What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up, released on May 13 alongside Kendrick Lamar’s MM&TBS, as Johan generated tons of momentum on his own — rolling out a pair of pop hits that separate him from K-Dot’s masterpiece. Touting orchestra-influenced production and a dash of hip-hop in the form of appearances from Lancey Foux, Ant Clemons, RMR, Cousin Stizz, Thouxanbanfauni and more, Lenox’s debut LP looks to bridge the gap between all genres he holds close, striving to make more “weird shit” at the end of the day.

Diving headfirst into the metaphor of growing pains, Johan’s cover art perfectly encapsulates the feeling of apocalyptic uncertainty with a brooding skyline looming over a younger version of hip-hop’s favorite composer.
Upon sharing the LP’s final single “Fuck This Town” (April 29), Lenox further revealed his motivations and creative process in an exclusive interview with Our Generation Music. Since our chat, he’s added YZY Sound signees in 070 Shake and KayCyy to his star-studded effort, completing his Kanye-inspired quest to curate an album that is set to predict his artistic trajectory.
With the album finally out, Johan asks one simple question: What do you want to be when you grow up?
