2 Chainz and Lil Wayne are finally in line to make their collaborative return.
The legendary Atlanta rapper took to Twitter on Tuesday (July 11) to announce that the long-awaited sequel to 2016’s ColleGrove is currently still in progress. The album was originally announced in January by Chainz and comes right after his release of Dope Don’t Sell Itself earlier this year.
This will be the second installment in the ColleGrove series, which signifies where each rapper is from: College Park, Georgia (2 Chainz) and Hollegrove in New Orleans (Lil Wayne). 2 Chainz also noted in a Spotify Greenroom discussion with DJ Akademiks in January that the upcoming project will be different than anything we have heard from the pair in the past.
“I feel super excited about this fucking project because it don’t sound like nothing I’ve ever heard before. And doing something like that with Wayne, it’s welcoming, it’s warming and it’s going to be accepted.”

While we know that Chainz is excited for these upcoming sounds, fans still have little to no information on its features, tracklist or album artwork. We do know, however, that while 2 Chainz was labeled as the main artist on the first installment due to Lil Wayne’s label issues, both artists will be credited for the next installment. Additionally, Chainz has previously announced that the project is in the mixing stage and has had a different approach compared to the original.
“This one is definitely coming out this year… We’re actually in the process of mixing it… We were in the studio together. I think the last time we were in the studio together maybe twice. This time, we’ve been in the studio together multiple times working on this project. Whether going back in after we’ve done something or whatever.”

ColleGrove proved to be a hit with fans, after debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and selling 53,000 first-week units. The sequel would also mark Lil Wayne’s second collaborative project in the past year, after dropping Trust Fund Babies with Rich the Kid in October 2021.
While the world waits for what the duo drops off next, there’s no doubt that ColleGrove 2 will live up to the hype.
