In this week’s edition (July 26 – Aug. 1) we look back at another busy week including new music from NAV and TyFontaine, the tragic passing of JayDaYoungan, our full coverage of Lollapalooza in Chicago and much more!

While we had an exciting week for music, we also had an extremely devastating loss with the passing of Louisiana rapper JayDaYoungan. The 24-year-old rapper was transported via helicopter to a local Bogalusa hospital along with his father who was also a victim in the reported double shooting. While his family tried to debunk rumors of his passing, Jay ended up passing away due to injuries later that night. For more on the tragic incident, click here.

NAV is officially back and brought superstar friends Travis Scott and Lil Baby along with him. His new single “Never Sleep” marks his first lead single since the “Young Wheezy” with Gunna in 2020. The track is the first and lead single off his upcoming LP Demons Protected by Angels, which currently has an unannounced release date. The Tay Keith produced track is already a hit, with amazing verses from the all-star trio. For more on the return of NAV, click here.

One of our generation’s most talented acts TyFontaine surprised fans this past week by dropping his new mixtape WTF is P!NK last Friday (July 29). The tape features 18 tracks with no features, which helps showcase the young DMV emcee’s expansive talents. The mixtape is a lead-up to his next official LP, Ascension 2 and comes just two months removed from his previous project Beautiful Michi Girls. If you’re looking for new Meek Mill music, look no further. Announced last Wednesday (July 27), Meek took to social media to share that he will be dropping a total of 10 mixtapes starting this September. The news comes less than a year removed from his 2021 LP Expensive Pain. The Philly emcee looks to drop a single on the anniversary of his father’s passing, Aug. 18. While it is unknown what platforms the projects will be released on, it can be assumed that they will not be released traditonally since Meek has teased dropping music as a NFT in the past. Just a few weeks removed from his new album Wasteland, Maryland R&B star Brent Faiyaz is already teasing a new body of work. In an interview with Complex, he announced that he has a project that’s still in the works titled Make It Out Alive — and all the songs he’s made up to this point just hasn’t fit the album’s vision. Not only that, but Brent has already started to tease upcoming music with “Bad Habit” star Steve Lacy. For more on Brent’s next work, click here.
