TyFontaine’s second independent album, Beautiful Michi Girls, is finally here, as Fontaine’s “Michi” era is as “Beautiful” as he said it would be.
Unveiling the project on Wednesday (May 18) — which took him over two years to perfect — the DMV hitmaker’s new album touts 12 new tracks and a sole feature from Jourdin Pauline. Offering another layer to the sonic world he’s created, Fontaine also posted an immersive live performance of his March 4-pack, B4BMG — adding the short EP as a bonus to the new record.
Like the teaser tape, his latest full-length effort is executive produced by close collaborators in Beniok, Dane’s Blood, L3gion and DJ Malcolm Xavier — divulging in his Instagram post that this is the “REALEST music I’ve created… Life is BEAUTIFUL.”
With Ty’s hype at an all-time high, Michi proudly released the album through his label collective High Tide, with plans to kick off his aforementioned “The Beautiful Ascension Tour” on July 8 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Off the back of BMG and its latest single “ByMySelf,” Fontaine has become one of the most electric artists blossoming out of SoundCloud’s revitalized new wave. With an intrinsic ability to both sing and rap, BMG’s sound fuses his background a part of the Internet Money hitmaking machine with timeless R&B-centric hip-hop — finding refined balance in psychedelic soundscapes on tracks like “Numb,” “Lil Slime” and “LOVE4FREE.” Inspired by the likes of Future, Young Thug and Brent Faiyaz, Fontaine is poised for greener pastures with talent far beyond that of his peers.
On “ByMySelf,” he employs the same lavishly versatile production found on B4BMG and his debut independent effort Ascension. Linking back up with video director Anti for the track’s visual (April 13) — who also handled the cinematic black-and-white cuts for B4BMG’s “Keep IT Real” and BMG’s “Numb / Lil Slime” — “By MySelf” sees Michi appreciating his moment and embracing his haters on the come-up as music’s next big thing.
Fontaine released Acsension in June 2021 with its coinciding deluxe following soon after. Recruiting a laundry list of hip-hop’s hottest up-and-comers in Joony, Summrs, Cochise, SoFaygo and Pasto Flocco, Virtual World 2 saw Ty’s hit-making ability on full display — also floating over bouncy, rage-inspired tracks with Trippie Redd and Lil Tecca.
He amicably departed from his deal with Internet Money in early 2021, as he still keeps close relationships with the IM team. However, since becoming independent, Michi has ascended to new heights — becoming the all-encompassing creative he was always meant to be.
