Playboi Carti, NBA YoungBoy collab album in the works?

Armed with two of the most die-hard fan bases in music, magic between YB and Carti seems more real than imaginary.

After a photo of NBA YoungBoy wearing an Opium chain made it onto Playboi Carti and Ken Carson’s Instagram stories (June 12), the jeweler who crafted YB’s 00-encrusted necklace broke news of a potential joint album on the way for the rap giants.

“004KT @playboicarti gifts YoungBoy a chain ahead of their new collab album,” Jewelry Unlimited wrote in their caption highlighting the bling, as Carti’s name instantly trended on Twitter minutes after the photo made it on social media. Even close collaborator and DJ F1LTHY alluded to the record, tweeting out its supposed title “004KT.” Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, however, it seems likely the LP exists in some capacity at this point.

While both artists are considered to be a few of the most notable of our generation, their release rate couldn’t be more polar. While YB opts for three to six projects per year, the Opium boss’ mystique not only keeps fans invested, but endlessly on the edge of their seats — waiting for new MUSIC after years of snippets, leaks and dead-end teasers. YB’s already dropped three albums this year (I Rest My Case, Don’t Try This At Home and Richest Opp), and is aiming for his fourth in Green Flag Activity: Vol 2 on June 23. It’s been nearly three years since Carti shared his third studio album Whole Lotta Red.

While 004KT could embrace Carti’s full-fledged return to music — aside from appearing for a seconds-long verse on The Weeknd’s “Popular” — it’s best to keep expectations low for now. If albums from A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Kid Cudi, Destroy Lonely and Ken Carson weren’t enough to make 2023 interesting, a link-up between Carti and NBA YoungBoy would break the internet for the better.

This story will be updated.
