Throughout the year, hip-hop has seen many young artists transition from SoundCloud stardom to mainstream acclaim. Artists like BabySantana, Ka$hdami, Slump6s and SSGKobe all have become leaders within the new wave, as Louisiana-bred artist Summrs is right behind them.
The 22-year-old rapper has proven himself to be one of the most promising young stars on the come-up. His consistency over the course of 2021 has been impressive — releasing two projects in What We Here and his most recent record Nothing More Nothing Less. Earlier this month, Summrs also dropped a standalone single “ghost glocks” that could’ve been a loose-track off his latest LP.
While the “ghost glocks” hype winded down following its release, Summrs turns the heat back up with his brand new single and visual for “Buy Whatever.” He teamed up with one of today’s hottest new directors and editors DotComNirvan — who’s 2021 catalog includes TyFontaine, Yeat, KanKan and many other underground stars.
“Buy Whatever” isn’t a typical DotComNirvan visual. Usually packed with extremely loud colors, flashing animations and psychedelic-looking shots, “Buy Whatever” is an opposite to Nirvan’s bread and butter. Shot in black and white, Nirvan’s trademark vibrance and flashy colors are remiss from the visual, yet fans find a fast-paced video with quick cuts and different maneuvering transitions.
The song itself is extremely catchy as Summrs swiftly flows over the track’s euphoric rage production — equipped with thundering bells and hard-hitting 808s.
As Summrs continues to grow his underground following — sitting at over 200,000 Spotify monthly listeners — it’s only a matter of time before the new wave sensation reaches mainstream acclaim.
