If life’s an adventure, TyFontaine is tackling it head on.
Officially dropping his viral snippet “Adventure Time (racks on my body)” this past weekend (Feb. 9), the DMV hitmaker continues to prove he’s one of the most talented — yet unappreciated — rappers in the underground. Fontaine’s time is coming, though, evident in the adventurous sound his latest single takes listeners on (as well as looks from prominent UG influencer accounts like OnThinIce, KMA, Joey Hip Hop, Bryce Fitts, Lidesty and others).
“Adventure Time” was also rumored to feature Lil Uzi Vert, as Ty took to Twitter to ask fans to pester Uzi for his verse (to no avail ultimately). Ty shared the visual for “Croak” prior to the the track last month, floating over his now-signature iridescent soundscape — mixing and meshing his voice within different sung-rap pockets consistent with inspirations in Playboi Carti and Young Thug. In other words, “Adventure Time” sounds as if you’re watching a turnt Zoo books commercial being filmed in the middle Safari tour (do whatever you will with this mental picture).
It’s a new era for TyFontaine, who’s precariously crafting his next full-length album Ascension 2 amid a handful of mixtapes throughout 2023. Dropping 264 in December, the project features a slew of new wave voices such as Summrs, Lil Dre, Hardrock and close collaborator Joony. Additionally, comparisons to Playboi Carti recently came to light for 24-year-old emcee, with fans discovering that 264’s “Wetty” sounds akin to some of Carti’s earlier flows.
Sharing a total of six projects in two years, there’s no denying TyFontaine isn’t primed for mainstream success. All it will take is that one track to give him the exposure he deserves — and perhaps “Adventure Time” cracks that door open a bit wider.
