Midwxst knows the climb to the top is a marathon not a sprint. And yet, the 21-year-old rapper is speeding towards the finish line on the fourth iteration of BACK IN ACTION.
Featuring underground peers in DC The Don (“FIRE”) and Dro Kenji (“MIA”), the 15-track mixtape continues Edgar’s BACK IN ACTION tirade—with each project focusing on the edgier, distorted pocket of his soundscape.
Opposed to his major label debut, E3, BIA 4.0 is made for high speed chases and fast, freeway joy rides. Highlights like “E30,” “THREATS,” “AFH,” “NO ENCORE,” “THROW UP” and others display Midwxst’s superpower: His malleability to transcend genres from project to project.
Historically, Midwxst’s BIA tapes offer an energetic break in the action from his studio albums—emanating the out-of-the-box aura the new underground has been defined by since 2019. The narrative is as consistent as midwxst’s other albums, but is tinged with a “f*ck you” attitude. Cohesive and clad with unrivaled energy, BIA 4.0 proves to be the best of the bunch.
Sharing his debut album in September 2023, Edgar—who’s been dubbed as “The Future of Music” by Rolling Stone—continues to make mainstream waves off the back of projects like BIA 3.0, better luck next time and marquee festival sets at Lollapalooza and more.
