Polo G shrugs off every ‘Distraction’ on new single

For the last three years, Polo G has been a defiant voice for our generation’s emotion-driven “Rapstars.”

Stemming from his stunning debut project Die a Legend in 2019 — as well as his sophomore effort THE GOAT (2020) and Hall of Fame (2021) — Polo’s guitar and piano laced crooning has soundtracked every summer since his stratospheric breakout hit “Pop Out.”

The Chicago native continued his hot streak in December with the deluxe to his No. 1 album Hall of Fame — officially closing his trilogy chapter of his career.

Aided by features from Lil Baby, NLE Choppa, frequent collaborator Lil Tjay and more, HOF ascended the “Bad Man (Smooth Criminal)” emcee to new charting heights — becoming one of the most sought after rappers in the industry. Looking to take over the summer once more, Polo G officially made his return on Friday (June 3) with his new single “Distraction,” his first official release of 2022.

Over the guitar-infused instrumental from hitmakers CuBeatz and Southside, fueled by powerful claps and trap drums, Polo pours his heart out about the many obstacles he has to overcome that often get overlooked. While acknowledging these “distractions,” Polo also ponders how different his life would be if he indulged in the many vices that surround him.

How I go so hard, they still discredit my talent

Took shit too far, now they regrettin’ what happened

Hard for my mama to accept I’m a savage (Uh, uh)

You play, I’m lettin’ you have it (Uh, uh-uh-uh)

Them shots let off, that’s too much blood for a napkin

They claim we locked in, what if I wasn’t rapping?

Fiend for that Ecstasy, couldn’t keep from relapsing

Bring out the best of me, I’d be a distraction, uh

“Distraction” — Polo G

The visuals for the song feature emerging YouTuber, TikToker and Twitch streamer Kai Cenat, who was used for the promotional skit for the song earlier in the week. Throughout the video, Polo is seen envisioning the crime-driven downfall that could have easily happened to him if he weren’t as careful about his movements during his come-up.

While it is currently unknown if “Distraction” will be a promotional single for an upcoming album from Polo G in the near future, it is surely a welcome sight seeing him deliver his first taste of new music in 2022.
