Rowdy splits his personality on ‘Rowdy vs. Rebel’

As New York’s drill scene exceedingly flourishes with releases from some of the city’s finest emcees, Brooklyn-born Rowdy Rebel puts his inner battle on full display on his new single.

Rowdy vs. Rebel” is a high-energy cut that separates the money-minded Rowdy from his menacing alter ego Rebel — with Rowdy detailing the concept in a lengthy IG post, saying “Rowdy vs Rebel is me explaining me.”

Rowdy just wanna rap, Rebel just wanna trap

Rebel wanna slide, Rowdy wanna chat

Rowdy got a mic’, Rebel got a MAC

Rowdy seein’ green, Rebel seein’ black

Rowdy doin’ good, Rowdy sittin’ back

Rebel off a bean, he just gettin’ back

Rowdy thinkin’ mills, Rowdy thinkin’ plaques

Rebel thinkin’ drills, Rebel thinkin’, ‘Snap,’ gang”

Rowdy Rebel — “Rowdy vs. Rebel”

Throughout the track, the street-minded Rebel represents his younger self, recklessly participating in illicit activities while a much more mature Rowdy focuses on making music and money.

Since the end of his six-year indictment in 2020, Rowdy has been steadily racking up singles and collaborations, featured alongside the likes of Bobby Shmurda, 42 Dugg, Doe Boy, Quavo and more. Most recently, he appeared on “Toxic,” a heartbreak anthem by fellow New Yorker Trav.

With momentum picking up on Rowdy’s career, fans patiently await Sacrifices, the follow-up to his 2016 project Shmoney Keeps Calling. The project was announced in June 2021 alongside a freestyle over Meek Mill’sFlamerz Flow.”

If “Rowdy vs. Rebel” is any indication of the quality of music on his upcoming effort, fans of the Brooklyn drill legend are sure to be impressed. Though nothing is set in stone, the release of such an introspective single is promising for a potential project sometime in the near future.
