Playboi Carti’s signee Ken Car$on has been steadily building his fanbase with consistent releases and a fresh take on the rage style popularized by the Opium label head’s Whole Lotta Red.
His latest effort comes in the form of a video for a standout track off his debut album Project X. “Rock N Roll” gets the most cinematic treatment of any track Ken has dropped so far, with the hypnotic effects complementing the hilarious storyline seamlessly. Inspired by Kid Cudi’s legendary video for “Day N Nite,” Car$on pays homage to Cudder by using the same premise of working at a grocery mart. Of the similarities, the sign that reads “Rock N Roll,” the woman police officer stripping for Ken in the store and the clicking of the pen to swap out the girls featured in the video, Car$on surely channeled the essence of Cudi for his latest creative vision.
Transcendent 808s combine with erratic synths as Ken brings his usual gritty delivery on the track, creating an ambience fit for stadiums and arenas. The video depicts the world through Ken’s eyes as he does his daily routine with the assistance of some heavy hallucinogens.
Ken has been prepping for the release of his sophomore project, X-Man, with an appearance on Yeat’s 2 Alivë as well as his SoundCloud-exclusive EP Lost Files 3. The visuals for “Rock N Roll” may signify that he is ending the Project X era to move onto bigger and better with his upcoming album.
