Over the last few years, the state of Florida has become a hot spot for hip-hop’s greatest emerging acts. We’ve seen stars like XXXTENTACION, Kodak Black, YNW Melly, Ski Mask The Slump God and countless others enter the mainstream spotlight through emanating the state’s one-of-a-kind energy and swagger.
Although many cities possess their own distinct sound, aesthetic and style in regards to music, Florida however, doesn’t seem to be defined by a singular thing. It’s as if every artist has their own unique sound, as Floridians seemingly thrive going against the grain.
22-year-old rapper LPB Poody falls within this space, as Poody first dove into the spotlight with his 2019 breakout single “Address It.” Fast forward to 2021, he delivered another breakout track titled “Batman,” which saw tons of success on Tik-Tok, helping it expand to a wider audience in the process. The song would eventually go on to be remixed by Lil Wayne and MoneyBagg Yo, as Poody reaped the rewards of his personal success — becoming an underrated star in the making.
While already having an impressive year, LPB Poody gifted fans with his new mixtape I’m The One this past weekend (Dec. 3).
In the project’s lead single “I’m The One,” LPB Poody once again proves that he is an artist to be taken seriously. Poody enters the track with his aggressive Floridian flair — bringing in an excess of energy that totally sets the tone of the song. His rich vocals complement the southern sounding beat nearly perfectly — as he crisply floats over the track.
With Poody on the rise, is he poised to take over Florida’s sound?
