West Coast rap fans rejoice as one of the most prominent LA rappers returns with a brand-new album, surprising fans with an end to his lengthy rollout.
YG‘s latest project, I Got Issues, has the Los Angeles native rapping over various sounds, bringing a stacked cast including J. Cole, Moneybagg Yo, Mozzy, Roddy Ricch, Nas and more. Over the 14-track release, YG stays true to his classic West Coast sound while successfully incorporating each feature.
YG set a strong precedent with his singles leading up to this project, dropping two solo cuts and two heavy-hitting collaborations. “Sign Language” came first, followed by the star-studded combination of YG, J Cole and Moneybagg Yo on “Scared Money.” Then, competing with himself for most star-studded summer banger, the Los Angeles resident proceeded to drop “Run,” featuring Tyga, BIA and 21 Savage, ending his rollout with a melodic solo song titled “Toxic.”
The rest of the project matches up as YG showcases his versatility on bedroom songs like “Sober” and rag-to-riches anthems like “No Weapon.” To accompany the release, he dropped music videos for “I Dance” and “How To Rob A Rapper,” two standout cuts from I Got Issues.
2021 was a hectic year for YG as both his 4Hunnid label and fellow California native Mozzy received collaborative projects with Gang Affiliated and Kommunity Service, respectively. It seems like he took 2022 to focus on his own career, resulting in this upcoming album.
Check your streaming services on Sept. 30 for I Got Issues, surely bringing some surprises along for the ride.
