Playboi Carti’s Opium label was already a great idea in concept: Have one of this generation’s most innovatively polarizing artists harness fresh talent under his watch. Destroy Lonely has had maybe the biggest year out of all the Opium signees, with his albums No Stylist and NS+ (ULTRA) showing a glitzier and more sonically curious side of the recent rage trend in rap.
Fresh off of his deluxe album and supporting Ken Carson as an opener on his X-Man tour, Destroy Lonely now has his own shows around the U.S with the No Stylist tour. Featuring DJ Blak Boy and Homixide Gang, the sold out Chicago show also featured the most dedicated, eye-opening energy from any crowd I’ve seen all year.
Maybe it’s the veiled personas and one-of-a-kind production beneath his vocals, or maybe it’s the Alyx drip and melodic fusion of rapping and singing from Lone. Whatever it may be, it was a sight to behold.
