Atlanta wunderkind Russ has always considered himself a “lone wolf” in the hip-hop industry, spurned by the mainstream for his lack of materialism and shallowness. While the media and anti-Russ stans continue to blindside the producer-rapper, he has wholeheartedly embraced this title in his projects, such as RIAA Platinum breakout 2017 album There’s Really a Wolf and his 2020 EP CHOMP.
As much of his prior work rarely enlisted features, he has opened up to collaborations on his past few projects, working with veterans like Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg on 2018’s ZOO and Benny The Butcher and Ty Dolla $ign on 2020’s SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE. CHOMP also included assists from lyrical enforcements like Ab-Soul, Busta Rhymes, Black Thought and Benny The Butcher once more.
On Wednesday (Dec. 8), Russ released CHOMP‘s follow-up, in the form of a full length album, CHOMP 2. The project serves as his most collaborative effort in is entire career, meshing his determined, melodic flow with several certified wordsmiths.
The tracklist includes East Coast juggernauts like Papoose, Joey Bada$$, Styles P, Jadakiss and Ghostface Killah, West Coast specialists like Snoop Dogg, Mozzy and The Game, Griselda muscle like Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine and overall highly-skilled, proficient acts like Wale, Big Sean, Jay Electronica and more.
Although Russ has dropped over a dozen singles since the beginning of 2021, all of CHOMP 2 is original work that had not been released prior.
