HBO’s hit drama Euphoria has been stacking up Emmy nominations since its first season in the summer of 2019. Since its beginning, Drake has always had a hand in the making of the show, being credited as one of the sixteen executive producers of the series.
Now, it seems Drizzy’s investment in the show full of a blossoming, star-studded cast has paid off. Last week (Aug. 5), the Television Academy at the Emmys announced that Drake, along with seven other executive producers and two producers, have been nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series for Euphoria Season 2.
This announcement came about a month after the Emmy nominations for all the categories were announced, which saw Euphoria be nominated for over a dozen Emmys such as Drama Series, Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Zendaya), Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Sydney Sweeney), Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Martha Kelly), Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Coleman Domingo), Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and more. This clarification by the Television Academy confirms Drake would receive an Emmy if Euphoria won the Drama Series category.
Previously, Euphoria has won three Emmys for their first season for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup, Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics (Labrinth) and Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Zendaya). So, this is nothing new for the Euphoria team. This victory would begin a campaign for Drake to become the first artist to win a Grammy, an Emmy, and Oscar and a Tony, but he would surely need to get back into his acting bag that he flexed on Degrassi for a chance at this.
In the meantime, Drake is probably okay with settling for this Emmy nom as well as the rumor circulating that he is now a billionaire, which was first revealed by Nicki Minaj this past weekend at the Young Money reunion show. This would see him join the elite company of Kanye West, JAY-Z and Rihanna as some of the only musicians with a billion dollar net worth.
The 2022 Emmys take place on Monday, Sept. 12, so fans will have to wait around a month to see if Drake, the potential billion dollar man, will take home some hardware.
