Lil Baby drops dark banger ‘Detox’ ahead of new album

After multiple features, live performances, loose singles and an Amazon Prime documentary, Lil Baby is finally back in album mode.

In the two years since dropping his second studio album, My Turn, Baby has become a household name in music — achieving success most artists can only dream of. After hopping on tracks and holding his own with some of hip-hop’s marquee emcees in Kanye West, Drake, J. Cole and more, Lil Baby is coming into his own on his next project — offering a glimpse of a presumable vice-ridden era on “Detox.”

While “Detox” marks Baby’s fourth single this year, it’s the first to be confirmed on his unnamed, upcoming LP. The track was jointly announced on Thursday (Sept. 1) by 4PF and Spotify and is pure, potent showing of Lil Baby’s artistic evolution.

“Detox” opens with a dark and creeping choir sample that cascades into two well-polished verse — allowing Baby to prove yet again that his flows are unmatched when paired with his lyrical ability. He’s all gas no brakes on “Detox,” seamlessly taking over the beat and flexing his luxurious lifestyle that took years for him to earn. The coinciding visual sees Baby boxing, instructing a yoga class and suited up in an office as he spits witty rhymes over “Detox’s” simplistic trap percussion.

I ain’t tryna see her, I’ma detox for the next few days

She like me, ’cause I’m G, buy her Givenchy

Every time you look up, I be doin’ somethin’ else, yeah, that’s me

I don’t do too much, that’s P, these hoes so embarrassin’

“Detox” — Lil Baby

Despite touting three Billboard charting tracks this year alone, Baby has been an absolute menace when it comes to features. His collaborations speak for itself, appearing alongside Nicki Minaj for two singles “Do We Have a Problem?” and “Bussin,” as the former reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and won best hip-hop music video at this year’s VMA’s. Baby also hopped on tracks with NAV, DJ Khaled, Future and 2 Chainz in 2022.

Prior to his VMA win of awards, the “Detox” emcee also nabbed his first ever Grammy in April. Winning Best Rap Melodic Performance with Kanye West and The Weeknd for their Donda standout “Hurricane,” Baby eventually landed his own Amazon Prime Video documentary titled Untrapped. Also factoring in multiple festival appearances at Coachella, Rolling Loud, Lollapalooza and others, it’s apparent Baby’s been on his grind all year long.

With an album weeks away, it’s safe to assume that the “summer takeover” he’s been teasing will surely hit harder as Fall settles in.
