Since his meteoric rise and sensational blow up last year, Morray‘s 2022 has been a bit more low-key. Whether it be the success of his breakout hit “Quicksand,” his inclusion on J. Cole‘s The Off-Season album, his selection for the 2021 XXL Freshman Class or his stunning debut project Street Sermons, last year couldn’t not have been more momentous for the North Carolina crooner.
But, having only released a handful of singles this year, including “Still Here” with Cordae and the Mother’s Day anthem “Momma’s Love,” Morray is ready to turn the noise back up. On Aug. 12, he released his brand new single “Ticket,” a promotional single for his currently untitled next project.
“Ticket,” produced by Atlanta legend Southside, sees Morray employ the same approach that got him to the pinnacle of the soulful rap genre last year. The mellow string loop combined with powerful trap drums provides a fitting backdrop for a track where Morray depicts a hungry mindset.
Similar to many of his previous songs, Morray sings about his rough upbringing, and always looking to catch a break to keep his head above water. In this case, similar to winning the lottery, Morray years for the “ticket” to success.
The passion in Morray’s voice sines through in the stunning hook, where he harmonizes about his restless nights thinking about getting his bread up.
No cap, I can’t sleep, money keep me up
Keep the diamonds in the safe when a nigga ’bout to fuck
Still trappin’ in the streets now, hard for me to change up
Just try me and you see now, I ain’t never changed up“Ticket” — Morray
After the release of Ticket, Morray tweeted about his excitement for the release of his upcoming project, even though he has not confirmed a title, track list or release date for it yet.
“Ticket” is surely a step in the right direction for Morray, as he looks to get back on track with his signature angelic voice and blue collar work ethic.
