The Kid LAROI is always one to wear his heart on his sleeve, sharing his latest single “Still Yours” (March 1).
Debuting the track in the Prime Video documentary about his life and career, “KIDS ARE GROWING UP,” LAROI reflects on a lost love that still tugs at his heart strings. With lines like, “It’s been over for some months, but I feel like I’m still yours,” LAROI captures the emotional brevity plaguing his pscyhe — crooning from a place of despair and mending his own broken heart on this contemplative guitar ballad.
“A million times I said sorry
But looking back it’s not on me
I tried to act like I wasn’t hurt
Just see it in my eyes, I can’t hide it”
The Kid LAROI — “Still Yours”
LAROI’s new documentary fully encompasses his family, career and evolution from a kid in Sydney, Australia to global superstar. However, the singer implores fans to listen to his music over watching the film; this is where they’ll learn the most about him. “Why do you want to watch a whole movie about me? I told you go listen to the music,” he says just minutes in. “You’ll learn a lot more about me if you actually listen.”
Moments with mentor and “Stay” collaborator Justin Bieber are paired with narratives about rebuilding his relationship with his father, friendship with Juice WRLD and signing to Lil Bibby’s Grade A productions at 15 years old — moving from Australia to Los Angeles with his entire family. The temptations of fame and fortune are apparent in LAROI’s come-up, where he speaks on suicidal thoughts and dealing with loss and handling this notoriety at such a young age.
LAROI’s debut album, The First Time, features contributions from BTS’ Jungkook, CentralCee, Future, BabyDrill, NBA YoungBoy, d4vd and more, which follows his breakthrough mixtape, F*ck Love, in 2021. He recently graced Lyrical Lemonade’s compilation album, All Is Yellow, on the track “This My Life” alongside Lil Skies and “DIVA” collaborator Lil Tecca, also sharing a solo single titled “Heaven” that same day.
