Fresh off the “Tecca Loves You Tour” with Lil Tecca, Tana, and Bktherula, yvngxchris is keeping his foot on the gas — dropping his debut project, Virality, on Friday (Aug. 19).
After gaining more than 1 million followers on TikTok — and having numerous tracks go viral on the platform — the 17-year-old star-in-the-making has created resounding noise in the underground scene. Stemming from his most recent single “DAMN HOMIE” with Lil Yachty, Chris’ debut EP is as quick-witted and tenacious as he is.
Just a few years into his young career, the DMV native has garnered a loyal fan base and is known for the energy he brings at his live shows. Virality not only features the aforementioned Lil Boat, but also a few of the new wave’s most prominent voices in DC The Don and Xlovclo. Additionally, the Internet-bred lyricist brings aboard a strong team of producers for the project such as Working On Dying, Internet Money’s CXDY and Dylvinci.
“Ain’t No Fun” (released on Aug. 3) was the lead single off the 8-track EP, as Chris bodies the 808-heavy beat with more fast-paced bars and a scintillating ASMR hook. “They be like, goddamn Chris, how you be killing it?”, yvngxchris spits with energy, asserting himself as one of the youngest hitmakers to grace the mic as of late.
On tracks such as “QuikkSkope” with Donny and “Red Lyte” featuring Xlovclo, Chris shows off his versatility and his ability to rap hard-hitting verses over more melodic beats. Both tracks have Chris spitting quick rambling verses that lead into smooth chorus transitions by DC and clo. This type of style is extremely different for the DMV artist, however, Chris makes it known that he can kill any beat that he hops on.
“Giig,” the second single off of Virality and viral sound on TikTok, dropped on Friday (Aug. 12). “Bentley Bentayga, I’ma take off, And if that n—a try to play soft, Glock gon’ come off the bench like the Playoffs, Pull up, my whole gang gon’ chase y’all,” Chris snaps with short bars over rumbling 808s produced by Cxdy. His flow hits quick pockets as the young emcee mimics the flashing hits of the kicks and drums within the instrumental.
Alongside the track, the DMV native dropped an official music video for the single directed by BoxBoyYahir. The video captures Chris’ life on the road during his 3-month tour as an opener for Lil Tecca. BoxBoyYahir captures Chris vibing with friend and producer, Zayskillz, and fellow artist, Tana.
yvngxchris brought a new type of energy and excitement on his debut project, as Virality evidently shows why Chris is leveling up at a rapid pace.
