Homixide Gang unveils ‘I5U5WE5’ mixtape with new single ‘R50’

Homixide Gang haven’t let off the gas in what seems like years.

Since the release of their debut album, Snotty World, in 2022, the Opium tandem (Beno and Meechie) have remained consistent forces in the underground — pushing the envelope with their patented style of distorted sonic chaos.

Sharing their new mixtape, I5U5WE5, on Friday ?May 31), the 00 duo led in their latest album with lead singles in “HI-VOLTAGE” and “R50.” Teasing the LP with photos of them wearing masks (a la Slipknot), I5U5WE5 holds 14 tracks and a sole feature from Lil Yachty.

“R50” sees the duo clad in motorcycle gear racing through back alleys in a high-speed pursuit—sounding as stark as the world that encapsulates Opium’s allure. I5U5WE5 seems to be more metal-inspired than any of 00’s previous records, especially with “R50’s” use of brash, distorted guitars. Much of the record feels sounds triumphant, as “SIDE EFFExT” with Lil Yachty enlists Opium’s F1LTHY, “SwanTon BOMB,” “HI-VOLTAGE” and “SHARP Sh00ter” sound authentically Opium, yet allows HXG to flourish through their own lens. Simply put, I5U5WE5 is certainly the duo’s best full-length effort to date.

I5U5WE5 follows Homixide Gang’s last project 5TH AMNDMNT in October 2023, marking the final album of the label’s annual “00*CTOBER” takeover. Precded by Ken Carson’s A GREAT CHAOS and Destroy Lonely’s If Looks Could Kill deluxe, Homixide Gang’s new tape looks to be the next release for Opium following the delay of Lone’s “Luv4Ya” and Playboi Carti’s highly-anticipated MUSIC. Carson recently shared “overseas,” ringing in a prolific collaboration with XBOX ahead of his MORE CHAOS deluxe.
