‘Entergalactic’ ‘closes the chapter’ on new Kid Cudi music

While Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic may very well be his final full-length album, fans are taking in every last second of it.

Three years in the making, Cudi shared his long-awaited animated series and album on Friday (Sept. 30). Previously stating that Entergalactic was — and is — his “greatest achievement” to date, Cudder visited Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to speak on the dual-nature of the project — revealing that he is “closing the chapter on Kid Cudi.”

Cudi originally announced the series in 2019, as his tenth studio album not only acts as a conduit for the Netflix-curated show, but could be the last of new music from the Cleveland emcee. Nevertheless, the 15-track project has sent fans over the moon with excitement, as Moonman Cudder recruits guests in Steve Aoki, Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz, Don Toliver and Dot Da Genius.

The show is described on Netflix as “mind-bending, offbeat and romantic,” as the trippy animated series follows the love life of two New York residents — Jabari, a charismatic street artist and Meadow, a photographer who he falls for. The animation style is reminiscent of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and Arcane, another recently released Netflix special.

On June 8, Cudi dropped the first teaser for Entergalactic, which featured the album’s lead single “Do What I Want.” It revealed a few juicy details about the animated series, including a preview of the star-studded cast: Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Vanessa Hudgens, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Teyana Taylor, Macaulay Culkin and more.

Between preparing for this release and finishing off his tour, Cudi has kept up musical appearances in 2022, touting collaborations with Nigo and Pusha T, as well as a track for the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 soundtrack.

Entergalactic (both the series and the special) add yet another accolade to Cudi’s long list of achievements as he takes over the streaming world — both with his boundary-pushing sounds and transcendent visuals.

Here’s hoping Cudi’s long-term hiatus isn’t for forever.
