To make “P!NK,” one needs Red & White, as the hype for Lil Uzi Vert’s The Pink Tape has now reached an all-time high. Amid the project’s two-year wait, Batman Uzi is keeping fans hungry for more — dropping off a taste of the long-awaited album with a 9-track EP Red & White (July 22).
Quickly sharing four promotional singles over the past week, the Philly rapper’s eye-catching Salvador Dali-inspired cover art was announced with an assertion of Pink Tape’s eventual release. “Red & White Ep …. Before The P!NK,” he wrote on IG. “I’m so happy. I feel free dropping all this music.”
Dropping the tape’s remaining five tracks one-by-one last Friday (July 22), Uzi first shared “SPACE CADET” on Saturday (July 16). The rapper then gifted fans with another hit on Monday (July 18) in “I KNOW” produced by the immaculate Sonny Digital. As another surprise drop to continue the EP’s rollout, Uzi released Red & White’s third track “FLEX UP” on Tuesday (July 19), which touts production from longtime collaborator Maaly Raw.
His last single “Hittin My Shoulder” — as well as Uzi’s previous three tracks — sees the Eternal Atake rapper swerve over more outerspace vibes that take The Pink Tape’s anticipation to stratospheric heights. Other highlights in “FOR FUN” and “GLOCK IN MY PURSE” brings back those classic Uzi vibes with frivolous bars and “shoulder-hitting” beats. The project was exclusively available on SoundCloud up until Friday night when Uzi officially released the tape to all DSPs. A new track titled “CIGARETTE” has also appeared on the DSP version of the EP, which previously contained five tracks. Uzi has since updated the mixtape with all of its tracks packaged in one place.
With the EP finally out, Uzi continues the trend of dropping teaser tapes before a full-length album (i.e. KayCyy, SoFaygo, TyFontaine). This is Uzi’s first solo project since 2020’s Eternal Atake. Following his collaborative LP with Future in Pluto x Baby Pluto, the follow-up to Uzi’s 2020 efforts have had fans hungry for new heat for a while now.
Yet, Uzi’s been on a tear in 2022 — morphing into “Drill” Uzi Vert on I Know Nigo’s “Heavy” as well as lending his vocals to Mura Masa’s “bbycakes.” Uzi first announced The Pink Tape in July 2021, leading in the LP with its first single “Demon High.” The Halloween-inspired record was initially aimed for an October release, but has been hindered by delays.
With light at the end of the tunnel, Uzi’s “P!NK” era is poised to redefine the already legendary rapper’s legacy for years to come.
