In this week’s edition (Aug. 8-15), we cover another busy week in hip-hop including JID’s newest album announcement, Destroy Lonely’s surprise drop, Playboi Carti‘s forthcoming Rolling Loud performance and so much more.
After waiting four years since 2018’s DiCaprio 2, fans are finally receiving JID’s long awaited sequel to his debut album, The Forever Story, this month. The project was officially announced last week Monday (Aug. 8) by his label Dreamville, and along with the announcement came the release date, cover art and a new single. The new track “Dance Now” features fellow Atlanta native Kenny Mason and is their third collaboration together. This past week, it finally happened. Destroy Lonely surprised fans with his long-awaited LP, No Stylist. The project has been teased for over the last two years and dropped last Friday (Aug. 12). The album features a sole feature from fellow Opium labelmate Ken Carson on the album’s outro, and features 19 tracks in total, sitting at just under an hour. The album was announced just 24 hours before its release by Rap Caviar and Taz Taylor, which shocked fans who have been waiting for years. For more on Lonely’s new drop, click here.
Drake has had quite the year so far, and it’s only getting better. After dropping his seventh LP Honestly, Nevermind earlier this summer, including the chart-topping “Jimmy Cooks” featuring 21 Savage, the Toronto superstar is getting nominated for awards outside of music. While it may not be a Grammy (yet), Drake was officially nominated for his work on HBO’s hit show Euphoria, which has exploded in popularity this year. The Emmy is for Outstanding Drama Series, in which Drake and nine other members of production were nominated. Drake is officially credited as one of the executive producers on the show. Just after dropping his newest project WTF is P!NK two weeks ago, TyFontaine is already back teasing new work. His supposed next album, A2, was originally teased earlier this week after Michi asked his producer friends to send in beats for his upcoming album. He also officially announced on Twitter that this would be his next body of work. While we wait for more information, read up on his upcoming album.
After countless comments and messages from fans wanting to see more live performances from king vamp, Rolling Loud has officially announced Playboi Carti as a special guest for their upcoming New York show during the weekend of Sept. 23-25. With Nicki Minaj, A$AP Rocky and Future also headlining for the event, Rolling Loud proves once again that they are one of the most sought-after music festivals in the world.
